About
Hi, I'm Nick, the designer and owner here at The Christian Poster Company.
After 24 years as an NHS doctor I am now doing this full-time, and it's a real joy to combine my passion for design with God's true and living word. My aim is to bring glory to God, and joy to your lives.
I live with my family in Liverpool, UK, and when I'm not designing I love running, coffee, Northumberland beaches, and McVities dark chocolate digestive biscuits.
Please do come and say hello on Instagram, Facebook, or in person if you see me at an event with my stall.
The journey
In March 2024 I hung up my stethoscope and ended my 20-year career as an inner-city GP to run The Christian Poster Company full-time, having grown the business from what started as a creative outlet four years earlier.
Last day as a GP. March 2024
In purely financial terms, it was a bit of a crazy decision in the world’s eyes. However, the signs of growth are encouraging and, more importantly, my wife and I wholeheartedly feel that this is God’s plan. We marvel with gratitude that he has led us here and trust him to guide our paths.
For the decade or so leading up to this point I had been dealing with what many would describe as burnout. It would be easy to attribute that to the demands of doctoring, and no doubt that played a part, but in truth it’s more complicated than that. In 2012 we lost our 3-year-old daughter to leukaemia (we have three remaining daughters), and the scars from that traumatic time still run deep.
The design work really started as form of mental distraction. I taught myself to use Adobe Illustrator, then began incorporating my favourite bible verses into poster designs, and things have grown from there. Initially sales were all via an Etsy store then, as the brand grew, I launched this website and started exhibiting at festivals.
My first big festival was New Wine 2023 and the success there really helped to confirm that this could be a full-time venture. I also found that I loved meeting customers and connecting with fellow traders, which came as a bit of a surprise to me as a worn-out introvert! I now increasingly sell to trade, with several bookshops already on board and partnerships developing with the bookstalls covering most of the major Christian events.
I find real joy in this work. Joy in creating, of course, but also joy in hearing from others of how my designs have encouraged them or been used in some form of ministry. My style is to use bright colours with bold, typographic designs. God’s word is front and centre (licenced use of the NIV translation) with the occasional favourite hymn lyric added to the mix. The product range includes posters (of course!), cards, notebooks and calendars. The list of possibilities seems endless but, despite having taken over the biggest room in the house, I am beginning to run out of space. I don’t know what God’s plans are for future growth of the company, but he certainly does. God is good!
